Tam Van Tran is included in the exhibition "Sample Platter - Contemporary Ceramic" at the Guggenheim Gallery at Chapman University from 3 February to 15 March 2020. 

Sample Platter shows the work of 20 artists investigating the medium of ceramics. Experienced ceramicists who have been exploring the matter and material for years and sometimes decades are represented as well as artists who recently began working in clay or consider ceramics an extension of their practice.

The Fellows of Contemporary Art is pleased to present a group exhibition with works by Tam Van Tran, 19 May - 20 July 2018. All of the artists included in CARBON are cognizant of their relationship to the chemical element of carbon, one of the most abundant substance in the universe and the basis of all known life. Each artist addresses the importance of this framework to a more profound understanding of the nature of existence -- some through materials and mediums, others through technique and subject.

Tam Van Tran incorporates a variety of uncoventional materials including biological to examine immigration within a metaphor of the global ecosystem.

Tam Van Tran will be included in Under The Spell: Los Angeles New International Art Scene at Galerie Frank Taal, 9 September - 15 October 2016.

The popularity of Los Angeles-based artists elsewhere, particularly in Europe, has set a tone of Los Angeles in the world scene. Artists such as Edward Kienholz, Ed Ruscha, John Baldessari and James Turrell from the 1960’s and 1970’s were the first wave to push outside of LA’s borders; Mike Kelley, Paul McCarthy, Raymond Pettibone, and Jason Rhoades and in the 1980’s and 1990’s became the next wave. Artists from the late 1990’s and into the 2000’s such Laura Owens, Dianna Thater, Mark Grotjahn, Sterling Ruby, Mark Bradford, all home grown, are the newest wave to hit the world scene.

The art scene in Los Angeles is deep and varied and the exhibition Under the Spell, LA’s New International Art Scene at Frank Taal gallery in Rotterdam features ten of LA’s most interesting artists. The artists included have varied artistic practices and reflect the diversity of the LA scene.

MCASB is pleased to present Aikido Dream, a solo exhibition by Tam Van Tran.

The exhibition features a selection of approximately twenty works from the 2000s to the present and serves as a vehicle for understanding the nature of the artistic process rather than presenting a chronological or mid-career retrospective.

Aikido Dream also reflects Tran’s interest in meditation, our environment, and his belief in intuition and transience, realms in which nothing is fixed and everything is in motion. This exhibition offers a nuanced platform to understand his artistic trajectory, providing a framework that fosters an investigation of his long-standing, iterative interests in religious thought (particularly the Buddhist idea of non-duality) and pop culture, as well as natural processes and transitions.
